Reports suggested that the UAE refused to host the remaining fixtures but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) say this is not the case.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been postponed indefinitely amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India in the border region of Kashmir.
Eight fixtures remain in this year’s tournament - four group stage matches, three play-off ties and the final which was scheduled to take place in Lahore on May 18.
The PCB had hoped to be able to move these matches to the UAE but have now opted to suspend the tournament instead.
Initial reports suggested that Emirates Cricket Board declined to host the eight remaining PSL matches, leading to the tournnament's suspension.
However, the PCB says PSL 2025 has been halted “pursuant to advice received from the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.”
"Cricket, while being a unifying force and a source of joy, must take a respectful pause when the country is facing such callous opposition,” said the PCB.
The UAE hosted the entire inaugural season of the PSL in 2016 and has hosted tournament fixtures in numerous subsequent years including as recently as 2021. Pakistan’s national team also played all of its ‘home’ fixtures in the UAE between 2009 and 2016.
Cricket betting sites installed reigning champions Islamabad United as pre-tournament favorites to retain their title in 2025.
They currently sit in third place but look set to qualify for the playoffs should the tournament continue.
