The approach mirrors the GCGRA’s approach to land-based casino licenses in the UAE.

The UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) will grant up to one B2C online gambling licence to each of the country’s seven emirates.

This licensing structure will mirror the approach the GCGRA has taken to land-based casino operations, for which a single license has been issued to date to the developers of Wynn Al Marjan resorts in Ras Al Khaimah.

Vixio GamblingCompliance, which initially broke the news, estimates that only two or three of the seven emirates will utilize their license spot.

The GCGCRA has granted a number of licenses to B2C suppliers in recent months, including sports data specialists Sportradar and live casino studio Live88.

The UAE’s only licensed lottery also now offers instant win online games via its website.

With the framework seemingly now in place, the first UAE licenses for online casinos and sports betting sites can be expected to land soon.
